The winners of FNB JoburgArtFair 2018’s latest initiative to discover fresh artistic talent in Africa have been revealed.

The #FNBJAF20 initiative saw members of the public cast their vote in favour of artists they consider to have the potential to influence and transform the art scene on a global level. The Top 20 winners list encompasses African artists from countries including São Tomé and Príncipe, Angola, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

The inauguration of #FNBJAF20 was a response to the ever-increasing interest in Africa’s contemporary artists since the inception of FNB JoburgArtFair in 2007. This creative initiative offers winners the career-boosting opportunity of launching themselves onto the international stage after their Fair showcase.

In July, preceding the Fair, a selection of curators, collectors, gallerists and art platforms were asked to nominate up to three new artists with the potential to challenge and shape the global art stage. The suggestions were then handed over to the public for online voting or they were given the chance to put forward a recommendation of their own.

The Top 20 winners of #FNBJAF20, as voted by the public, are:

  • Ana Silva (Angola)
  • Anastasia Pather (South Africa)
  • Asanda Kupa (South Africa)
